In a deep song voicewith a melancholy tone

He did a lazy sway ....

O Blues!

Coming from a black mans soul.

While the Weary Bluesechoed through his head.

Swaying to and fro on his rickety stool

Down on Lenox Avenue the other night

O Blues!

Rocking back and forth to a mellow croon,

To the tune o those Weary Blues.

"Aint got nobody in all this world,

And I wish that I had died."

And cant be satisfied--

The stars went out and so did the moon.

Droning a drowsy syncopated tune,

And put ma troubles on the shelf."

And far into the night he crooned that tune.

By the pale dull pallor of an old gas light

With his ebony hands on each ivory key

Thump, thump, thump, went his foot on the floor.

The singer stopped playing and went to bed

He slept like a rock or a man thats dead.

He played a few chords then he sang some more--

Aint got nobody but maself.

And Icant be satisfied.

Is gwine to quit ma frownin

I heard a Negro play.

He played that sad raggy tune like a musical fool.

I heard that Negro sing, that old piano moan--

He made that poor piano moanwith melody.
